ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington coach John Sauerhage completed his own "triple crown" today by bringing home Sun Belt Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors. He previously secured the league accolades for men's cross country and men's indoor track after claiming team titles in each of those sports as well.
On Sunday, Sauerhage's Mavericks won the men's team championship with 145 points, besting runner-up Western Kentucky by seven points. By completing the sweep of the three sports, UTA became the first SBC team since WKU in 2008 to land all three championships.
For Sauerhage, the outdoor men's coaching honor was the third of his career. The 18-year coaching veteran has now amassed a total of 25 conference coach of the year awards between men's and women's cross country as well as the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
"This is truly a team award," Sauerhage said. "This group has given its all from day one and has been so enjoyable for us to coach. I'm proud of everything that they have accomplished up to this point, and am looking forward to the NCAA meet."
