ARLINGTON, Texas -- John Sauerhage was voted the Sun Belt Conference Men's Coach of the Year according to a tally of his peers, the league office has announced. Sauerhage has guided the UT Arlington men to a national ranking of 27th this year.
It is the second straight outdoor coach of the year honor for Sauerhage, whose Mavericks have won back-to-back league titles since joining the Sun Belt.
Sauerhage has now been named conference outdoor men's Coach of the Year four times, twice in the SBC and twice in the Southland Conference. Including both men's and women's cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, this is his 26th all-time conference Coach of the Year billing.
In addition, the Sun Belt announced its all-conference performers, a list that includes eight different UTA women and 11 different men. For the women, Gabriela Alfonzo earned all-conference accolades in a pair of individual events, the 5000m and 10,000m.
In addition, Taylor Davis (400m), Ashly Wright (800m), Tamerah Gorham (800m), Hannah Nilsson (1500m), Shaniece Prevot (400m hurdles) and Chineme Obikudu (triple jump) were recognized. Davis, Gorham, Wright and Dasia Rolfe earned all-conference mention on the 4x400m relay team.
On the men's side, Clayton Vaughn (100m, 200m), Quentin Butler (100m, 200m), Emil Blomberg (1500m ,3000m steeplechase) and Craig Lautenslager (5000m, 10,000m) won multiple individual honors.
Other all-league recipients from UTA were: Eric Ojeda (5000m), Victor Fincher (110m hurdles), Roland Sales (high jump), Tobi Fawehinmi (triple jump) and Christian Schiemann (decathlon). Vaughn, Butler, Cameron Newson and Tarik Crear combined to take All-SBC honors in the 4x100m relay.
