AUSTIN, Texas - UT Arlington completed its stay at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Saturday as its final five athletes saw action in their events. None of the athletes on the final day advanced to the NCAA Championships, but the Mavericks will still take three to the national meet in two weeks.
Two men, Romain Martin (decathlon) and Bozidar Antunovic (shot put), and one woman, Ashly Wright (800 meters), earned appearances at the NCAA Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
On Saturday, Quentin Butler placed 16th in the semifinals of the 200 meters with a time of 21.30. The final qualifying spot for the NCAAs was secured at 21.08.
UTA's Lionel Mungwari finished 28th in the triple jump with a mark of 49-04.25 (15.04m), while Omar Barnes was three spots behind. Barnes posted a best leap of 49-01.50 (14.97m).
In other action, Ivan Storic placed 30th in the javelin with a throw of 201-05 (61.40m), while Jennifer Brown placed 44th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 38-07.75 (11.78m).
