EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Erik Martinsson capped his stellar season Wednesday night by competing in the semifinals of the 800 meters at the 2018 NCAA Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field.
Martinsson placed 22nd in the 800m with a time of 1:52.48. The top two finishers in each heat, plus the next two fastest times qualified for Friday’s eight-man finals. The final qualifying time for the finals was 1:47.40.
Martinsson was the Sun Belt Conference champion in the event and had a season-best time of 1:48.63 at the NCAA West Preliminary Round. In addition, he won the event at the prestigious Drake Relays.
UTA’s Alexus Henry will compete in the finals of the women’s high jump on Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT). The competition will air live on ESPN3. Live results are available here. It will conclude the Mavericks’ 2017-18 athletics season.
