ARLINGTON, Texas – A bevy of meets in the state of Texas, including UTA’s outdoor home meet, highlight the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field schedules for 2017-18.
“We are excited about our schedule and are eager to get going,” coach John Sauerhage said. “We are very fortunate to be able to compete in so many high-quality meets against top-notch talent without having to travel far. Our student-athletes love to compete in front of their families and friends, and our schedule gives them great opportunities to do that on a regular basis.”
Including the postseason, UTA’s indoor schedule features eight total meets, and it begins next month with the Dunamis Indoor Opener in Dallas on Dec. 1. The season will kick off in earnest Jan. 13 at the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.
UTA has a pair of trips to College Station and two to Lubbock in the 2018 indoor calendar year. The Mavericks will leave their home state just once prior to the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. That will occur when the squads make their annual trek to Oklahoma’s J.D. Martin Invitational on Feb. 3.
The Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships will once again take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., and will be contested Feb. 19-20. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 9-10 in College Station.
The Mavs kick off the outdoor slate March 17 at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth. In all, UTA athletes are scheduled to compete at more than one dozen events during the spring season.
The following weekend (March 23-24), the Mavericks will host the annual Bobby Lane Invitational at Maverick Stadium. The first day will feature the hammer throw and javelin, while the remainder of the events will take place on Saturday.
UTA will only leave the Lone Star State twice in the outdoor regular season. Those planned trips include a visit to the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.) as well as a drive to the John Jacobs Invitational (Norman, Okla.).
The 2018 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships will remain in Texas. This time, the league meet heads south from Arlington to San Marcos. The three-day championship is slated for May 11-13.
Finally, the NCAA West Preliminary Round is set for Sacramento, Calif. (May 24-26), while the NCAA Championships are June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
