ARLINGTON, Texas -- Nearly half of the members of the UTA men's and women's indoor track and field teams will get their first taste of competition Friday, when the Mavericks compete in the Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Opener at Dallas Market Hall.
It marks just the second time in program history that UTA has participated in an indoor event prior to January. In advance of the 2015 indoor season, the Mavericks lifted the lid on the campaign at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational in mid-December. Sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and mid-distance runners will be the Mavericks' primary representatives at the meet. More than a dozen athletes will be competing for the UTA track team for the first time.
"We are excited to get underway," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "This will give some of our athletes a chance to get the feel of competition and see where they are in their training. And to be able to do it in the Metroplex on one of the best surfaces in the country is really a terrific opportunity."
The Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Opener gets underway Friday at noon with field events and 12:30 p.m. with running events.
Colleges competing alongside UTA will include Abilene Christian, Austin College, Central Christian, Hardin-Simmons, Incarnate Word, McMurry, Midwestern State, Northwestern State, Southwest New Mexico, Southern Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran, Texas Wesleyan, UTSA and UT-Tyler.
The state-of-the-art Dunamis track is back in the Metroplex for the second straight year. Last season, the Mavericks competed on the surface at Dunamis' February meet at Texas Star.
Live results of the meet will be available here.
