ARLINGTON, Texas - For the first time in school history, the UT Arlington cross country teams will be competing at the Pre National Invitational, highlighting the 2014 season schedule revealed today by UTA coach John Sauerhage.

The Pre National Invitational will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, in Terre Haute, Ind., the site of the 2014 NCAA Championships. UTA will get a preview of Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course with hopes of returning a month later (Saturday, Nov. 22) for the national championships.

"We have set up a challenging schedule for our teams because they deserve it," Sauerhage said. "We are very much looking forward to a strong season and seeing how we stack up against the best."

Both the men's and women's teams return all five of their top runners from a year ago. The UTA men have won back-to-back conference titles, while the women earned a runner-up finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships last fall. Both Maverick squads were among the top 15 in the South Central Regional rankings in 2013, with the men peaking at an all-time best ranking of No. 3.

The Mavericks' promising year will begin Friday, Aug. 29, at the Bear Twilight Invitational in Waco, Texas. It will mark Sauerhage's 19th season at the helm of the program.

Two weeks later, on Saturday, Sept. 13, the Mavs will host the UTA Season Opener/Gerald Richey High School Invitational at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. It is the second year that Lynn Creek Park has served as the Mavericks' home course.

The teams also will compete at Minnesota's prestigious Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The postseason will commence on Sunday, Nov. 2, with the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Mobile, Ala. The NCAA South Central Regional will be contested on Friday, Nov. 14, in Fayetteville, Ark. The top two teams earn automatic berths into the NCAA Championships.
