ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington senior Ryan Tilotta has been tabbed as Men's Co-Runner of the Week for the season’s first week, the Sun Belt Conference office announced Wednesday following a vote of the league’s coaches.
A first-team All-Sun Belt performer a year ago, Tilotta opened the 2014 campaign with a fourth-place finish among 44 runners at the Bear Twilight Invitational on Friday in Waco, Texas. He completed the 6k layout in 18:25.5 to lead the Mavericks.
The native of Tomball, Texas, finished just 11 seconds off the winner’s pace. His placement helped the Mavericks finish second in a five-team field that included Baylor, Texas, TCU and North Texas.
Tilotta is the second UTA male ever named SBC Runner of the Week, joining Eric Ojeda, who was selected Oct. 23, 2013. Tilotta was honored alongside Dusan Makevic of UL Monroe.
