SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The UT Arlington Mavericks men's and women's cross country teams had strong showings at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, as the men finished as the team runner up and the women took fifth in the Gold Division race.
Freshman Virgilio Martinezcontinued his standout campaign, as he placed fifth individually with a time of 24:50. He was just 22 seconds off the winning mark. Martinez now has two wins and a top-five finish in three career events.
Fellow freshman Craig Lautenslagertook 11th in 25:03, as he was the team's second finisher for the third time in as many events.
UTA finished with 73 points, behind only North Central College (54) in the 18-team field.
On the women's side, Hannah Nilssononce again paced the Mavericks, finishing eighth overall in 17:54. She has finished in the top 15 in all three of her outings this season.
UTA totaled 168 points to finish behind first-place TCU (62), runner-up Notre Dame (86), Calvin College (130) and Eastern Michigan (134). Thirteen women's squads competed.
The Mavericks will be tested again at Arkansas' Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 13.
