COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- A group of UTA men's cross country runners headed to College Station Friday evening to participate in the Aggieland Open.
Head coach John Sauerhage elected to attend the meet in order to give his less experienced runners another chance at competing in a meet prior to the end of the regular season.
"The conference meet is only three weeks away, so we are getting to crunch time in our season," Sauerhage said. "Getting an opportunity to see some of our young guys compete again is helpful as we figure out who will make our travel roster going forward."
Sophomore Eduardo Trevizo paced the Mavericks, placing 13th in the 5k with a clocking of 16:02.5. UTA's next two competitors across the line were freshmen Victor Bocanegra (48th, 17:15.6) and Cesar Limones (50th, 17:18.8).
As a team, the Mavericks, who fielded just five runners, finished seventh with 186 points.
The men's and women's teams will complete their regular seasons next Saturday (Oct. 13). The Sun Belt Conference Championships will be contested on Oct. 28 in Boone, N.C.
