The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco, Texas on Saturday.
Baylor University will be hosting the event, and teams from Arkansas, Louisiana and the Eastern half of Texas will compete for a spot in the NCAA Championships.
"The top three teams qualify for the NCAA Championships," head coach John Sauerhage said. "The top four individuals that are not a part of those top three teams will also qualify. If a runner doesn't finish in the top 20 they won't make Nationals."
"I would say Emily has a chance, based on her reputation and past performances," Sauerhage said. "She hasn't had the kind of year she was hoping for, but she's still in good shape and she's still capable of an outstanding performance if she can put it together on Saturday."
The men's and women's teams finished in 7th place and 5th place, respectively, at the Southland Conference meet. Sauerhage said the Regional gives them a chance at revenge.
"The girls would very much like to get back at some of the teams that beat us in the Southland Conference meet," Sauerhage said. "It's not the same as the conference meet, but it's still an opportunity to race those teams and beat them. We're going there to get some respect back from what we didn't get done at conference."
Race time for the men's 10,000m is set for 10:15, and the women run the 6,000m at 11:15. Both races will be held at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
