ARLNGTON, Texas – The best athletes in the world take center stage in Brazil for the 2016 Summer Olympics. UT Arlington Athletics has been strongly represented at the Olympics over the years with record-breaking performances and memories that will last a lifetime.
Throughout the running of the 2016 games, we will be highlighting former Mavericks that have made history, representing their countries in the world-renown event that only happens every four years.
Olympic Sport: Basketball
UTA has a distinguished group of former players that are playing all over the world, including Derrick Obasohan, an active member of the Nigerian National Team.
Obasohan played with Nigeria at the 2012 London Olympic Games and was set to make a second appearance this year in Rio before injury prevented the trip.
Representing the green at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, Obasohan helped started a international career that saw him capture bronze at the 2011 FIBA Africa Championships.
Obasohan played at UTA from 2000-2004 and has played internationally during his professional career.
