The USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) is 10-0 this summer and a main element to the team's success has been UT Arlington's junior-to-be Michael Choice. In 10 games played (eight starts) this summer, Choice is batting .448 (13-for-29) with five multi-hit games, three doubles and nine RBI. Team USA has now won 34 straight games dating back to last summer, and the team is coming off a four-game series sweep over Guatemala and a victory against the New England Collegiate League All-Stars on Sunday. The UT Arlington baseball program started the 2009 Major League Baseball season with 11 former players who are either currently in the big leagues, as a player, coach or manager, or are trying to reach the big leagues from the Double or Triple-A level. With the addition of four players from the Class of 2009, Nathan Long (RHP), Andy Sauter (RHP), Matt Otteman (RHP) and Andrew Kainer (LHP), UT Arlington currently has 15 former players playing with a MLB organization.

Former UT Arlington baseball player Hunter Pence was named to the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game as a reserve outfielder for the National League squad. MLB officials announced both teams' starters and reserves on Sunday, as Pence will make his Midsummer Classic debut on Tuesday, July 14, in the 80th edition of the All-Star Game at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Former UT Arlington right-handed pitcher Matthew Sartor has been named to the Double-A Southern League All-Star Game as one of 10 pitchers on the North Division roster. Sartor, who played at UT Arlington for two years (2006-07), will make his professional All-Star debut on Monday, July 13 at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala., as one of four players representing the Chattanooga Lookouts (Los Angeles Dodgers).

In a short period of time UT Arlington center fielder Michael Choice went from trying to make the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) to leading Team USA to a five-game sweep over Team Canada in their first games of the summer. Choice, who will enter his junior year at UT Arlington in 2009-10, led USA with a .615 batting average, which included three multi-hit games while starting four games in the outfield.
