Two UT Arlington right-handed pitchers were drafted on the final two days of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, as Nathan Long was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 26th round (#783 overall pick) and Rett Varner was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 34th round (#1,040 overall pick). UTA LEADS SLC IN ERA & FIELDING, OTTEMAN WINS BATTING CROWN

The UT Arlington baseball team finished its season leading the Southland Conference in team ERA and tied for the league lead in fielding percentage. Senior outfielder Matt Otteman won the SLC batting championship with a .432 batting average and also led the conference with eight triples. Senior right-handed pitcher Nathan Long broke a school record and led the SLC with 104 strikeouts. [Read More]
