Summer 2006: Played for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League...appeared in a team-best 42 games with 40 starts...hit .186 with eight doubles, one triple and 18 RBIs...tied for third on the team in RBIs and fourth in runs scored (17)...drew 22 walks and was hit by 11 pitches...was 11-for-14 in stolen base attempts.

NCAA Tournament: Appeared as a pinch-hitter in both contests...was hit by a pitch against North Carolina State.

SLC Tournament: Appeared in four games during the tournament...got the start in right field against Texas-San Antonio...was hit by a pitch and walked in his two plate appearances against McNeese State...scored a run...went 1-for-2 with a walk and stolen base against UTSA...hitless in one at-bat against Lamar...entered the game for defense against Northwestern State, did not get an at-bat.

2006: .214-0-5...appeared in 29 games with 17 starts...second on the team with nine hit-by-pitches...only struck out three times in 56 at-bats...earned his first start of his career against Texas Tech...went 2-for-4 with a career best two RBIs in a victory over nationally-ranked Hawai'i...hit by two pitches in the series finale victory over Northwestern State...collected a pair of hits and scored three runs in a conference victory over Louisiana-Monroe...went 1-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches in a start against Texas State.

Summer 2005: Played for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League...hit .223 with nine doubles, one home run and 19 RBIs in 41 games...scored 24 runs, while being hit by 12 pitches and stealing seven bases in eight attempts.

Prior to UTA: Came to UTA after earning honorable mention all-conference honors at Eastern Oklahoma State College...hit .357 with 14 doubles, four home runs and 27 RBIs...led the team with a .579 slugging percentage and was second with a .451 on-base percentage...was 15-for-18 in stolen base attempts...played his freshman season at Chandler-Gilbert Community College...hit .293 with six doubles, two triples, one home run and 24 RBIs...played his prep ball at Soldotna High School ...named team MVP in football...received the coaches award in hockey... named class valedictorian...member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Tammy and Jim Newby...born Sept. 9, 1983...cousin, Justin, played four years in the Kansas City Royals organization, while brother, Joey, is currently in the Oakland Athletics organization and twin brother, Eric, plays baseball at Colorado State-Pueblo...an interdisciplinary studies major at UTA.
