Mike Snapp enters his final season in a Mavericks uniform as the school's all-time leader in appearances with 95. He is just two appearances shy of becoming the Southland Conference all-time leader. Snapp is also just seven saves shy of becoming the all-time leader at UTA.
2003: 4-4, 5.76, six saves...ranked fourth on the team with 45.1 innings pitched...led the team and the conference with 33 appearances...his 33 appearances rank as the third most in a single season behind only his mark of 35 set in 2002 and David Sobczak's 37 in 1999...lowered his ERA nearly eight points after his first outing of the season...led the team in saves for the second straight year...earned his first victory of the season in the season opener against TCU...pitched a season long 4.1 innings, allowing only one hit, to earn the victory over Nothwestern State...picked up saves in three consecutive games with two coming against McNeese State and one against Baylor...struck out a season high four in a no decision against New Mexico...earned his fourth save of the season in the final regular season win over Lamar.
SLC Tournament: Made three appearances...went 1-0 with one save in 6.2 innings of work...earned the win against Louisiana-Monroe by allowing only two hits over the final three innings...picked up a victory over ULM the following evening by not allowing a hit in two-thirds of an inning...struck out five batters in the three outings.
2002: 6-8, 3.08, five saves...made team-high 35 appearances, all out of the bullpen...led team in saves...second on the team in wins and ERA...73 innings was third most on the club... held opponents to a .254 batting average...second most appearances in one season in UTA history, three behind David Sobczak's record of 37 set in 1999...racked up two saves in the Northwestern State series...earned wins in three straight appearances Feb. 9 at Louisiana Tech, Feb. 12 vs. TCU and Feb. 15 vs. Southwest Missouri State...allowed just two runs in last six regular season appearances combined...struck out 41 batters while walking only 15...did not issued a wild pitch all season...appeared in seven games during one 10-game, 17-day stretch for the Mavericks in April.
2001: Freshman made impressive debut in 2001...7-4, 3.19...tied for team lead with seven victories and owned the squad's third best ERA...27 appearances were second most on staff behind Jarrett Garza's 28...SLC Pitcher of the Week for his accomplishments in his first career appearance, when he received a no-decision as the starter vs. Texas Wesleyan Feb. 3...torched the Rams in that game by allowing no runs on just two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings...that marked his longest stint of the season...has made 19 of his 24 appearances out of the bullpen...second longest stint (tied with Lamar game in SLC Tournament) came in second appearance, another no-decision in a six-inning effort vs. Centenary Feb. 10...picked up first two wins on consecutive days in relief efforts at Northwestern State and Centenary on March 4 and March 5, respectively...struck out career-best six batters in that Centenary game, then matched that total March 24 in his third win of the year at Texas-San Antonio...held opponents to a .228 batting average...did not issued a base on balls in last 11 appearances, spanning 28 innings...last walk allowed came April 24 vs. Baylor. SLC Tournament: Named to the All-Tournament squad for his performances in two relief appearances...tied former Maverick Mike Bradley (1999) for the the best ERA in a SLC Tournament by a pitcher who threw at least 10 innings by not allowing a run of ANY kind in 10 1/3 innings of work...did not walk a batter in the tournament...opponents hit just .088 (3-for-34) against him...allowed just one hit while striking out three batters in 4 1/3 innings in an elimination game vs. Louisiana-Monroe...tossed six innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts as UTA clinched championship vs. Lamar...lowered season ERA 40 points to 2.80 in the tourney.
NCAA Tournament: Lone UTA hurler to appear in all three NCAA Tournament games...0-0, 9.00 in five innings of work...allowed three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in 1 1/3 innings in opener vs. Rice...one earned run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning vs. Houston ...one earned run on two hits with a strikeout and no walks in 3 1/3 innings in season finale vs. Rice.
Prior to UTA: Named team MVP and first team All-District after a senior season that saw him strike out 115 batters in 96 innings pitched for Joshua High School...had a 2.12 earned run average... a second team All-District player as a junior and honorable mention All-District performer as a sophomore...also earned second team All-District honors on the basketball floor as a senior.
