ARLINGTON, Texas -- A six-run fifth inning led Baylor to a 9-1 win over UTA baseball, on Tuesday night at Globe Life Ballpark.

UTA (4-6) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning but Baylor (5-5) plated six runs in the fifth to take a commanding lead, adding on with three in the eighth.

The Mavs faced off with Baylor in its sixth annual annual game at Globe Life Ballpark in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers.

The Mavs were limited to six hits in the game, with Noah Vaughan collecting two, to extend his hitting streak to seven games with a double and a hit. Josh Minjarez, Omar Salinas, Aaron Funk and Easton Johnson each had hits, with Johnson earning his first career triple and RJ Williams driving in a run.

UTA started freshman David Moffat (0-2) worked a career-long 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and one earned run, not issuing a walk and striking out a career high four.

With the go-ahead runner at second and two outs in the fifth inning, UTA turned to right-handed reliever Tristan Tom. Tom got an out but allowed four unearned runs to score. Ryan Buss took over to open the sixth inning, working two innings, allowing four hits and one run on two walks, striking out three. Logan Austin came on with a runner on third and no outs in the eighth, working the inning, allowing three hits and two runs, walking one and striking out three. Carlos Tavera worked the ninth.

Baylor starter Jacob Ashkinos worked 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and one run, not issuing a walk and striking out two. Lefty Ryan Leckich took over in the third and worked 4.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out two. Luke Boyd opened the eighth inning in relief.

The Mavs return to action with a three-game series on Friday in Wichita, Kan., with first pitch at 6 p.m. CT.

The Mavs opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a pair of hits. Johnson dropped a triple into shallow right-centerfield, with the ball skidding away from a pair of diving outfielders. Williams followed with a sac fly to centerfield to score Johnson for a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, Baylor evened up the game and took a lead, getting a double into shallow leftfield, bouncing just out of the diving glove of Zac Cook in leftfield. After a sacrifice bunt, Cole Haring doubled over the head of Cook for a RBI knock. A two-out fielding error kept the inning alive, with runners on the corners with two outs. Davis Wendzel then scored Haring with a double into centerfield. Andy Thomas then scored a pair with a single up the middle and Nick Loftin scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the eighth, Baylor added to its lead for a 9-1 lead. Davion Downy led off with a triple into deep centerfield and after a walk and a single that plunked the second base umpire, the bases were loaded. Richard Cunningham then scored two with a single to rightfield and Andy Thomas came around to score on a wild pitch.
