McLEOD LEADS OFFENSIVE CHARGE OVER ILLINI

ARLINGTON, Texas - David McLeod collected three hits and drove in four runs and Danny Slinkman added a pair of hits and two RBIs as UT Arlington scored 10 runs in the middle three innings to defeat Illinois 13-6 Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Fighting Illini (2-6) got on the board in the first inning as Ryan Snowden blooped a single to left field and stole second. After a groundout, Brandon Wikoff drove in the runner with an error by the second baseman. Lars Davis advanced the runner to third with a single through the left side and scored on a groundout by Daniel Webb.
The Mavs (7-10) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as Brock Wilson started by lacing a single to center field and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Daniel Rieder. Mitch Putman plated Wilson with a double into the gap in right center and came around to score on David McLeod's single through the left side.
UI regained the lead in the third as Shawn Roof was hit by a pitch and proceeded to steal second and third before scoring on Wikoff's chopper over the first baseman.
UTA tied the game in the fourth as Kyle Rudy started a two-out rally with a single to left field. Leo Radkowski followed with a single to left center and Lance Nobile drove in a run with a single through the right side.
The Mavs took advantage of some wildness in the fifth as Rieder and Putman were hit by pitches and Danny Slinkman beat out a bunt base hit to load the bases with nobody out. A wild pitched scored one run before McLeod delivered a two-run single through the right side. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, McLeod scored on a base hit off the bat of Ben Burum that bounced over the head of the drawn-in shortstop.
The Illini got a run back in the sixth as Joe Bonadonna tripled into the gap in right center and scored on Kyle Hudson's infield single.
UTA continued its offensive assault in the sixth inning as they collected four hits and pushed across five runs. Wilson started things with a one-out walk and and to third on Rieder's single to center. With two outs, Slinkman delivered a two-run double to left center and McLeod followed with an RBI double to left field. After a fielding error put runners on the corners, UTA executed the double steal and Kyle Rudy delivered an RBI single to round out the scoring.
The Mavs scratched across another run in the seventh as Nobile started the inning with a bunt base hit and went to second on the throwing error. After advancing to third, Nobile scored on a wild pitch.
UI got a run back in the eighth as Giller started the inning with a base hit and scored on a pinch-hit single from Nick Stockwell.
McLeod led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Wilson, Slinkman, Rudy, Radkowski and Noble each collected two hits.
Dillon Gee (2-3) earned the victory as he gave up four earned runs and struck out six in his fifth career complete game. Mike Stankiewicz (0-2) took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits in five innings.
The Mavs and Illini will close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
