ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington won its third straight game with a 13-1 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. Preseason All-American Michael Choice led the Mavericks going 2-for-3 with two RBI and hitting his conference leading eighth home run of the season.

UT Arlington (10-11) scored four runs in back-to-back innings in the third and fourth to jump ahead 8-1 and never looked back. The Warhawks (9-11) fall for the third straight time in midweek action and for the third straight time against the Mavericks in Arlington.

Senior left-handed pitcher Brian Watson (1-0) won his first game of the season pitching three-scoreless innings out of the bullpen while allowing just one hit with a pair of strikeouts. Junior lefty Mark Picca made the start for the Mavs but pitched only 4.0 innings with one run allowed on six hits and walked two batters with a strikeout.

Choice singled in the first inning and reached base with walks in the third and fourth. He launched his 26th career home run to right field to spark a three-run seventh inning for the Mavs. Choice is now tied for third on the UTA all-time career home runs list and needs only five to tie the school's all-time record.

Sophomore first baseman Jordan Vaughn hit an RBI double to left field with two outs in the third inning and later scored on Steffan Guest's two-run double. Freshman Preston Beck knocked in Guest with a single up the middle to give the Mavs a 4-0 advantage.

Vaughn extended his career-high hit streak to 12 games going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Freshman left fielder Taylor Mabra was plunked with the bases loaded and Choice received a bases-loaded walk in the Mavs' four-run fourth inning. Vaughn drove in his second run of the game with an infield single and later scored on a passed ball to put UTA ahead 8-1.

Also extending a career-high hit streak was catcher Chad Comer who went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI while improving his hit streak to 10 games. Comer also drove in two runs with a double down the left-field line in the eighth inning.

Garrett Laird pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts and senior Jason Mitchell struck out the side in the ninth inning during his second relief appearance this season. Mitchell now has a league-leading 46 strikeouts on the season.

Mavericks third baseman Brian Nephew finished with his fifth multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-5 with a run scored while posting a two-run double in the seventh inning.

Choice also extended his streak of reaching base safely in 33 straight games dating back to last season. He has now reached base in eight of his last nine plate appearances with five walks, two singles and a home run.

Choice is now batting .387 with 26 runs scored, 23 RBI and has recorded a .525 on-base percentage and .787 slugging percentage in 21 games. He has hit eight home runs in 75 at-bats this season (HR every 9.4 AB).

UT Arlington will be back in Southland Conference action this weekend taking on Northwestern State (15-4, 3-2 SLC) in Natchitoches, La. The Mavericks and Demons will begin their series on Friday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) from Brown Stroud Field.
