ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington losing streak ran to seven games as Texas State pounded out 12 hits in defeating the Mavericks 7-3 Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Bobcats (18-8, 5-0 SLC) got on the board in the first inning as Thomas Field started the game with a double just inside the bag at third before scoring on Jared Bunn's RBI single through the left side.
UTA (9-17, 0-5 SLC) tied the game in the second as John Mark Cleaveland started the inning with a single through the left side. After stealing second and going to third on the throwing error, Cleaveland scored on Kyle Rudy's groundout to second.
TXST regained the lead in the fourth as Bunn singled to right field and scored on Laurn Randell's double down the left-field line. A groundout advanced the runner to third before Elliott Babcock delivered a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Cats broke the game open in the sixth as Bunn singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt before Adam Witek walked. After a double steal, Babcock drove in both runners with a chopper over the head of the first baseman. Another stolen base set up Ben Theriot's RBI single up the middle.
TXST answered right back with a Field sacrifice fly to center field to score Theriot from third.
Justin Fiske (3-1) picked up the victory after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and six strikeouts over eight innings. Dillon Gee (2-5) took the loss after surrendering six runs on 11 hits in seven innings.
