STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA...Oklahoma State rallied for two runs in the eighth inning of Texas-Arlington starter Pierce Loveless to come from behind for a 3-2 victory over the Mavericks Tuesday afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The Mavericks (16-13) struck in the first inning as Kasey Baker doubled down the right field line on the first pitch of the game. Chris Taylor followed with a single to left center field to score Baker with the first run of the game.
The Cowboys (15-8) tied the game up in the fourth inning as Scott Kirby doubled to left field to score John Urick who had reached on a fielding error by Taylor.
UTA took the lead again in the sixth inning as with two outs Dan Dody singled through the left side and Dustin Bozarth walked to load the bases, joining Paul Bruder who had walked earlier in the inning. Baker followed with a RBI base on balls.
The Pokes took their first lead of the game in the eighth as three singles inlcuding the game winner by third baseman Mario Matulich off of Aaron Pullin to right field.
Scott Baker (5-3) earned the victory by pitching 1.2 innings of relief. Pierce Loveless (1-2) took the loss by allowing three runs, two earned, in 7.1 innings pitched while striking out eight.
Dody led the offense with three hits, while Baker and Taylor added two more for the Mavs.
The Mavericks return to action this weekend as they travel to Thibodaux, La. for a three-game Southland Conference series with the Colonels of Nicholls State beginning on Friday, March 28 with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. The two teams will be back on the diamond on Saturday at 1 p.m. and close the series out with a 1 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
