SOONERS NINTH-INNING RALLY SINKS MAVS
April 4, 2006
NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma catcher Jackson Williams delivered an RBI single up the middle to cap off a two-run ninth inning as the #16 Sooners rallied for a 4-3 victory over UT-Arlington Tuesday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU (22-9) started the inning with Kody Kaiser tripling off the glove of Mavs center fielder James Smith. Ryan Rohlinger drove in the run with a single down the left field line. After a strikeout, Ryan Mottern singled through the left side. OU put the runners in motion and stayed out of a double play as Freddie Rodriguez grounded out to short, setting the stage for Williams. The Mavs (14-17) got on the board in the fourth inning as Adam Moore singled into the hole at short and Kyle Thomason delivered a two-run home run to right field. UTA manufactured another run in the seventh as Brock Wilson singled up the middle and stole second. After advancing to third on a groundout, Danny Slinkman drove in Wilson with a two-out single through the right side. The Sooners responded in the home-half of the inning as Kaiser and Rohlinger singled with one out and Kevin Smith drove in both runners with a triple off the wall in straight-away center field. The Mavs then turned to closer Chris Taylor who got the next hitter to pop up to first and recorded the final out on a grounder to short. Taylor (1-3) took the loss as he allowed two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings. Will Savage (3-2) earned the victory by allowing one hit over two innings. Moore led the Mavs offense with three hits, while Slinkman and Wilson each collected two. The Mavs return to action this Friday as they open a three-game Southland Conference series against second-place Lamar. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
