MAVERICKS PLAY LONG BALL IN 10-3 VICTORY OVER MCNEESE STATE

ARLINGTON, Texas...The University of Texas at Arlington belted out four home runs on Saturday afternoon on their way to a 10-3 victory over McNeese State at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Mavericks (20-15, 9-2 SLC) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Kasey Baker singled through the right side and Ryan Roberts homered over the right field wall for his conference leading eighth home run of the season.
Roberts' bat came calling again in the third inning as he dropped his second bomb over the right field wall scoring Baker and Taylor, who reached base on a single and a double, respectively.
The Cowboys (19-16, 4-7 SLC) got a run back in the fourth inning as Ran Prince hit a solo shot to left field.
In the home half of the fifth, Taylor belted his fourth home run of the season over the right field wall to start the inning.
MSU got a run in the sixth inning as Brian Bernhardt singled to start the inning and advanced to second on Tim Lemke. Tommy Eubanks plated Bernhardt with a single through the left side.
The Mavs struck again in the sixth inning as Scott Williams reached on a fielder's choice and Daniel Lenihan drew a pinch hit walk. Baker followed with his third home run of the season over the right center field wall.
MSU's Lance Dawkins got a run back in the seventh inning as Lance Dawkins hit a solo homerun over the right center field wall.
UTA got its 10th run of the game as Baker hit a one out double down the left field line. He then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher Prince.
Ricky Stover (5-0) picked up the victory by allowing only three runs on eight hits, including eight strikeouts for his second straight complete game. Chris Denton (2-1) took the loss by allowing five earned runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Baker led the offense with four hits on the day and three runs batted in. Taylor, Roberts and Williams each collected two hits. Roberts knocked in five on the day.
The Mavericks and Cowboys will close out their three game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
