ARLINGTON, Texas - The feeling that UT Arlington felt after picking up their first win in 14 games did not last long as UTSA scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning and made quick work of the Mavericks in a 12-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTSA (19-13, 11-1 SLC) got all they would need in the third inning as they collected seven hits and took advantage of four walks and a hit by pitch. Michael Rockett and Zach Etheredge would deliver RBI singles and Tim Palincsar delivered the big blow with a three-run double to right field.
The Runners added two more runs as a double to center by Etheredge and a walk to Mitch Ponza was followed by a two-run single from Marshall Davis.
The Mavs (10-24, 1-11 SLC) only scoring chance came in the fifth inning when Kyle Rudy singled with one out and went to third on John Mark Cleaveland's double to left field. The scoring threat came to an end as Leo Radkowski lined out to left and Collin Garner grounded out to first.
Andy Sauter (0-2) took the loss after giving up six runs on three hits and three walks in 2.1 innings. Blake Brannon (2-4) earned the victory after allowing only three hits and striking out five in five innings.
The Mavs return to action next weekend as they open a three-game series against McNeese State on April 13-15. The series will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
