LAKE CHARLES, La. - UT-Arlington got career offensive days from Danny Slinkman, Ben Burum and Robby Winn combined to got 12-for-15 with 16 RBIs, three home runs, five doubles and 10 runs scored in the Mavs 19-5, seven inning, victory over McNeese State in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Cowboy Diamond.
Slinkman and Winn led the offense by each driving in a career-best six RBIs. Burum tied two school records in the contest as he collected five hits (29th time) and three doubles (12th time).
UTA (16-21, 11-4 SLC) used the long ball to gain the advantage in the first inning as Daniel Rieder started the game with a single through the right side and Slinkman followed by hitting the next pitch over the right field fence for the first home run of his career. With one out, Ben Burum singled up the middle and scored on Winn's homer off the foul pole in left field.
MSU (20-14, 8-6 SLC) responded in the home-half of the inning as Bryan Cartie blooped a single down the right-field line and scored on Charlie Kingery's homer to right center. Tyler Dugas doubled just inside the bag at third and scored on Jeramie Broussard's two-out bloop double into left center.
Slinkman provided more offense in the second inning as following an infield single from James Smith and a single to right center from Colin Booher, he hit his second home run of the game over the center field wall.
The offensive onslot continued in the third with two outs as Smith walked, Booher was hit by a pitch and Rieder singled to left field to load the bases. Slinkman drove in his sixth run of the game with a single up the middle and Adam Moore followed with an RBI-single into the hole at short. Burum continued his career day with a two-run double up the middle off the hard infield.
UTA got on the board again in the sixth as Moore reached on an error and Burum followed with single to right center. Winn drove in both runners with a double off the base of the fence in right center. After moving to third on a groundout, Kyle Rudy drove in the runner with a single to center.
The Cowboys got back into the scoring column in the sixth as Shon Landry hit a two-run home run to left field.
The Mavs put an end to the game in the seventh as Rieder, Slinkman and Moore singled to load the bases. Burum drove in two runs with a double down the right field line and Winn followed with a two-run double into the gap in right center. Brock Wilson drove in the final run with a double just inside the left-field foul line.
Dillon Gee (5-5) picked up the victory as he allowed five runs on nine hits in the seven-inning complete game. He struck out six and walked three. Sam English (3-3) took the loss as he gave up six runs on six hits in 1.1 innings.
UTA pounded out 21 hits, tieing the season-high set against Hawai'i. Burum led the way with five, Slinkman four, Winn and Rieder three and Moore two.
