NEXT: UTA at Sam Houston State, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
BELLEVUE, Washington - UT Arlington ended a soggy stay in the Pacific Northwest with Sunday afternoon's rain-soaked 5-0 loss to Seattle U at Bannerwood Park.
The Mavericks lost two of three in the Western Athletic Conference series, falling to 21-18 overall and 10-5 in the league. UTA remains in second place in the conference behind CSU Bakersfield. The Redhawks improved to 15-23 and 5-9.
The Mavericks have a pair of nonconference midweek games before returning to WAC play Friday at New Mexico State. UTA is at Sam Houston State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before playing host to Arkansas-Little Rock at Clay Gould Ballpark at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
UT Arlington starter Daniel Milliman (2-3) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) over 3.1 innings. SU starter Andrew Olson (3-4) kept the Mavericks off balance through nine shutout innings, allowing just four hits.
Ryan Walker had two of those hits for UTA, including a leadoff bunt single in the first before being stranded at third. The Redhawks scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly and RBI single.
SU added to its lead with a run in the fourth, chasing Milliman. UTA reliever John Beck limited the damage by inducing a double play to end the inning with a runner at third.
The Redhawks upped their lead to 5-0 in the fifth with a two-run home run to right off Beck.
