ARLINGTON, Texas - The inability for the UT-Arlington baseball team to generate any offense continued on Saturday afternoon as the Mavericks mustered only six hits in dropping a 7-0 decision to Texas-San Antonio at Clay Gould Ballpark. The loss was the seventh in the last eight conference games and dropped the Mavs to fifth place in the conference standings.
UTSA (26-12, 12-5 SLC) broke open a scoreless game in the fifth inning as Ryan Saltzgaber delivered a on-out single up the middle and Brandon Koger followed with a double into the gap in left center. UTA cut down a runner at the plate with a fielder's choice before J.R. Voyles drove in a run with a single through the left side. Michael McKennon followed with a two-run single just inside the bag at first.
The Runners put the game away in the eighth inning as they collected four hits in the inning, including a two-run single off the bat of Voyles and an RBI single from McKennon.
The Mavs (18-14, 11-7 SLC) could not come up with a timely hit as four of their nine runners left on base were stranded in scoring position.
Dillon Gee (5-6) took the loss as he gave up six runs on 11 hits in 7.1 innings. He struck out four and walked one. Josh Ruffin (6-1) tossed a complete-game six-hit shutout to pick up the victory.
The Mavs and Runners will close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
