DEMONS TAKE SERIES WITH LATE RALLY

ARLINGTON, Texas - Northwestern State shortstop Brandon Richey delivered a two-out two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to rally the Demons for a 4-2 victory over UT Arlington Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
NSU entered the eighth inning trailing 2-1. After the first two hitters were retired, Brandon Williams delivered a bunt single and Clay Baker followed with a bunt base hit to third, ending the day for UTA starter Nathan Long. Reliever PJ Burns came in and gave up the game-winner to Richey
The Demons (21-23, 11-9 SLC) got on the board in the fifth inning as Anthony Jones was hit by a pitch and would advance to third on a single into left center by Justin O'Neal, before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Mavs (12-31, 3-18 SLC) got on the board in the seventh as David Masters reached on a fielding error before Leo Radkowski singled through the left side. After a walk to Brock Wilson, David Newby delivered a sacrifice fly to left center. Daniel Rieder gave the Mavs the lead with a RBI single up the middle.
The Demons added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Knox McCorquodale blooped a double just inside the right-field line before a pinch-runner went to third on a flyout. With two outs, Chase Lyles drove in the runner with a bunt base hit to third.
Long (1-7) suffered loss after giving up three runs on five hits and six strikeouts over 7.2 innings. Ben Rodriguez (3-3) picked up the victory after allowing two unearned runs on six hits and six punchouts over 7.2 innings. Ryan Campbell (8) earned the save by striking out two over 1.1 innings.
The Mavs return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 1 as they travel to Norman, Okla. for a doubleheader against Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
