ARLINGTON, Texas – Darien McLemore knocked a game-winning run in the bottom of the 14th to score Greg McCall, UT Arlington slipped past Texas State 6-5 on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

"I really thought we competed today," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "It wasn't always pretty. They're a good club."

The Mavericks tied the game twice, once in the eighth and again in the 12th, and overcame a bases-loaded situation by the Bobcats in the top of the 14th to knot the three-game series at one a piece.

With the win, UT Arlington moved back into a tie for second place in the Western Athletic Conference with Texas State. Both teams are 14-9 in conference.

UT Arlington improved to 26-24 overall, while Texas State dropped to 25-25. The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. The finale is UTA's last home game of the season and Senior Day.

Derek Miller led UTA’s offense with a career-high four hits and an RBI. Ryan Walker, McCall, Jake Pinchback, McLemore, Travis Sibley and John Michael Twichell each had two hits. Zach Thompson pitched six innings, striking out two and allowed seven hits to go along with an earned run in a no-decision.

UT Arlington reliever Jacob Moreland picked up the win by getting out of the bases-loaded jam. Moreland got two outs and his first win in his first decision this season.

"What a great by Jacob Moreland, coming in with the bases loaded," Thomas said. "He hasn't pitched in a long time and it's tough situation to put him in. We talk a lot about throwing strikes and we did."

The Mavericks took advantage of back-to-back errors in the fourth inning to plate two runs. Twichell opened with a one-out single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. McLemore singled to left field and Twichell scored after the ball bounced away from the Bobcats left fielder.

Sibley singled to left, with the ball going under the glove of the left fielder to allow McLemore to score.

UTA added another run in the fifth off the left fielder's third error of the game. McCall opened with a walk and moved to second on a ground out. Pinchback sent a line drive to left that again went under the glove of the fielder, allowing McCall to score and Pinchback to advance to third.

Texas State got on the board in the sixth with back-to-back doubles with two outs to score a run. The Bobcats attempted to add another, but Pinchback tracked the long fly at the wall.

The Bobcats moved into the lead in the seventh inning on a two-out, three-RBI single by Andrew Stumph to center. Lawrence attempted to make a diving catch, but the ball rolled out of his glove as he hit the ground.

The Mavs tied the game in the eighth following a single by Sibley. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third on a wild pitch. Miller notched his fourth hit of the game with a single up the middle to plate Sibley.

Tyler Pearson's lone hit of the afternoon came in extra innings with one out as he sent the first pitch he saw in the 12th over the left field fence for a 5-4 Bobcats lead. UTA responded in the bottom of the inning as McCall singled up the middle to bring in Walker from second.
