TEXAS Probable Starting Pitcher ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington hopes to protect a perfect start to the 2013 campaign when it travels to Austin on Tuesday to face Texas at 6 p.m. The Mavericks are 3-0 for the first time since the start of the 2001 season after sweeping Louisiana Tech at home this past weekend. UTA had success against the Big 12 in 2012, as the team went 4-2 against the conference, including a 7-5 win over the No. 13 Longhorns . “It was a very good opening weekend for us,” UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. “We had some big outings from Andy Scott, Brad Vachon and Chad Nack, and I thought we executed well for the first time out. We look forward to Tuesday night, and we know how good they are and realize it will take our best effort.”
Thomas also enjoyed his 150th career win over the weekend in Saturday's 4-3 win over LA Tech. UTA had a strong weekend offensively. John Michael Twichell in Sunday’s game was a home run shy of the cycle in Sunday's 9-3 win, and hit .455 for the series. The junior had five hits, two triples and a double. Jake Pinchback and Justin Copeland each had six hits in the series, and Ryan Walker had four hits, three runs and three RBI. Sophomore Chad Nack will make his first start for the Mavericks against the Longhorns. Nack made 22 appearances for the Mavs last season out of the bullpen. He already had a key performance for UTA this season, picking up the win in the season opener. Nack had a 4-inning relief effort and struck out five giving up just one earned run. The right-hander picked up the save in last year’s contest against the Longhorns. |
