ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington squares off against Big 12 opponents this week beginning with No. 12 Oklahoma Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks, 7-4 after a weekend four-game split in the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational, face one of the hottest teams in the country in Oklahoma. The Sooners opened up the season by winning their first 10 games before falling to Pepperdine over the weekend.

"They are 11-1 and obviously a very good team," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We've got a little momentum going for us coming out of Sunday. We're starting a string of Big 12 games and are looking forward to the challenge. Our guys are excited about playing quality opponents. Games like this only make you better."

Following the midweek contest with OU, UTA travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech in a three-game weekend series.

The Mavs are 0-1 against the Big 12 this season after falling 2-1 at Texas on Feb. 19. UTA was 4-2 in 2012 against the conference, including a 10-3 win over then No. 18 Oklahoma.

Junior lefty Chase Weaver is slated to make his first start of the season against OU. Weaver has made four appearances out of the bullpen and owns a 2.84 ERA.

The Mavericks are hitting .303 as a team, led by Darien McLemore's .400 average. Matt Shortall crushed UTA's first home run of the season Friday against Houston Baptist. Shortall is hitting .382 on the season with two doubles, two triples and nine RBI.

UTA's pitching staff holds a 4.12 ERA this season and is looking to contain one of the Big 12's best players this season. Oklahoma's Matt Oberste leads the team with a .444 average - fourth in the Big 12 - with 20 hits, four doubles, two triples and a Big 12 best four homeruns and 19 RBI.
