ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington baseball hosts Utah, Missouri State and Abilene Christian in the UTA Hilton Invitational starting Friday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Mavericks (3-8) will face Utah (5-6) on Friday at 3 p.m. to open the tournament. UTA will then take on Missouri State (7-3) at 3 p.m. on Saturday before closing out the UTA Hilton Invitational against Abilene Christian (6-3) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The UTA Hilton Invitational will be the last weekend of games prior to the start of Sun Belt Conference play. The Mavs travel to conference rival Texas State in a three-game series starting on March 14 at 6:30 p.m. in San Marcos.

ALL-TIME AGAINST TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS: The Mavericks lead the all-time series against Abilene Christian, 14-6 while they are tied with Missouri State, 8-8. Friday will be the first meeting between UT Arlington and Utah in program history.
In the last meetings, UTA defeated ACU 3-2 on March 28, 1995 in Arlington and fell to MSU 9-4 on Feb. 25, 2012 in Arlington.
MAVS OVER THE LAST WEEK: UT Arlington defeated No. 12 TCU (Collegiate Baseball Poll) in Fort Worth on Tuesday, 10-2. Derek Miller, Matt Shortall and Travis Sibley led the offensive effort with three hits each followed closely by John Michael Twichell, who had two. Greg McCall also hit his first home run of the season against TCU.
The Mavericks dropped a three-game series to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at home over the weekend. UTA won the middle game of what became a three-game set after Sunday's rainout.
UTA fell to Texas A&M, 5-4 on Tuesday at Globe Life Park. The Mavs will return to the Major League venue on March 11 to take on Oklahoma.
UTA RETURNS TO GLOBE LIFE PARK: UTA heads to Globe Life Park for back-to-back weeks to take on regional powers. UTA faces Texas A&M on March 4 and then faces Oklahoma on March 11. RECORD SETTER: UTA's 19-inning game at McNeese State (2/21) is the longest game played in Mavericks' history. Justin Copeland tied an NCAA DI record, as well as set new a UTA and Sun Belt Conference record, with 10 at-bats. Shortall's four doubles set a new UTA all-time record and tied the SBC record.
The Mavs hit nine doubles as a team to tie a UTA record, now done twice with the last coming against TCU in 1993. Miller was hit by four pitches in that game to tie for second in the NCAA DI record books. Finally, McCall's 25 putouts ties him at sixth all-time in DI baseball history.
THIRD YEAR, THIRD CONFERENCE: The Mavericks baseball team will be in their third conference in as many years with the move to the Sun Belt Conference. UTA moved from the Southland Conference in 2012 to the Western Athletic Conference in 2013.
BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS: UT Arlington finished the 2013 season with 31-27 record and a share of the Western Athletic Conference regular-season title. It was UTA's second consecutive championship (2012 SLC Tournament). McCall (second-team), Shortall (first-team) and Brad Vachon (second-team) earned All-WAC honors last season.
MAVS PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON: The Mavericks were picked to finish fifth in their first season in the Sun Belt Conference by league coaches.
PRESEASON PLAYER HONORS: Shortall was named to the 2014 Louisville Slugger preseason All-American third-team, as well as the preseason All-SBC team. Shortall and Vachon also earned preseason All-SBC honors from College Sports Madness.
