McNeese State: ARLINGTON, Texas -- UT Arlington looks to rebound from a 12-2 loss on Tuesday when it opens up a three-game series vs. McNeese State on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavericks (9-7) ended a four-game road trip 1-3 after losing two to Texas Tech and one to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Tuesday. The Mavericks gave up a 12 runs against the Trojans, just two days after scoring a season-high 13 against Texas Tech on Sunday. "We're anxious to get back on the field," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We haven't played well the last four games and are looking forward to playing some good baseball."
The Mavericks are 61-60 all-time against the Cowboys with the most recent meeting taking place in the opening round of the Southland Conference tournament last year. UTA's three-game homestand against McNeese State (8-7) is the last for UTA at Clay Gould Ballpark until April 2. The Mavericks face TCU at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on March 19 before opening Western Athletic Conference play at UTSA March 22-24. The Mavericks will send Brad Vachon to the mound for Friday's contest. Vachon has a team-best 1.54 ERA, good for third in the WAC. Vachon is 2-0 in three starts and has 19 strikeouts compared to just 10 walks. On offense, UTA is led by Matt Shortall. Shortall has a seven-game hitting streak entering the weekend and a .393 batting average. His 15 RBI's are tied for fifth in the conference. The Mavericks overall is hitting .280 and featured four batters hitting over .300. McNeese State as a team is hitting .261 and are led by Connor Lloyd. Lloyd features a .378 average in 11 starts. |
