ARLINGTON, Texas -
FIRST PITCH
UT Arlington hits the road for its first weekend road series traveling to San Antonio to face UTSA for a three-game series starting Friday, March 19, at 6 p.m. Seven of the Mavs' next eight games will be on the road. UTA just completed a 10-game homestand (5-5). UTA is coming off a midweek series sweep over Oklahoma Christian (5-0, 17-9). The Roadrunners defeated Iowa 4-2 in their only midweek game on Wednesday. UTSA went 0-3 against Southeastern Louisiana last weekend in Hammond, La.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UT Arlington and UTSA meet for the 18th straight year with UTA holding a 35-26 lead in the all-time series. UTSA has a 14-10 advantage in San Antonio. The Mavericks have won three of the last four overall meetings, but UTSA has won four of the last six in San Antonio. UTSA won two out of three in the last series played in San Antonio (2008) although nine of the last 13 games in this series have been played in Arlington and one game in Beaumont (2006 SLC Tournament). UTA won two of three last year in Arlington.

UT ARLINGTON VS. THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE
UT Arlington is 331-346 all-time against teams that are current members of the Southland Conference. The Mavericks are 35-26 all-time against UTSA. The Mavericks and Roadrunners series dates back to 1993, as the teams have played every season since. UTA is 4-0 all-time against UTSA in Southland Conference Tournament action.
MAVERICKS LOOKING FOR 400TH ALL-TIME SOUTHLAND VICTORY
UT Arlington is one conference win away from its 400th all-time Southland Conference victory. UTA, the winningest program in Southland Conference history, owns a 399-391 (.505) overall conference record in 41 seasons of competition. Lamar has the second most wins in league history with 387 (1964-87, 1999-present). The Mavericks have the fourth most Southland Tournament victories (22) in league history.
TAKING A LOOK BACK
UT Arlington swept a two-game, midweek series from Oklahoma Christian (5-0, 17-9) while wrapping up a 10-game homestand. Mark Picca pitched seven shutout innings while allowing two hits with eight strikeouts on Tuesday and the Mavericks pounded out 19 hits with six players all recording multi-hit games on Wednesday. Michael Choice went 4-for-6 and hit his sixth home run of the season with three RBI in the series finale.

The Mavericks have tallied 10 or more base hits the last three games, averaging close to 14 hits per game... UTA has recorded 10 or more hits in seven of its last 10 games... UTA hit .342 (124-for-363) during their 10-game homestand with 27 extra-base hits (9 HR)... ON THE HORIZON
UTA will be back at Clay Gould Ballpark Tuesday, March 23, hosting Louisiana-Monroe for a midweek game starting at 6:30 p.m. The Mavs will then travel to Northwestern State for a three-game series (March 26-28) in Natchitoches, La.
SHUTTING OUT MIDWEEK OPPONENTS
The Mavericks shutout Oklahoma Christian 5-0 on Tuesday night, which was the first time UT Arlington had shutout a midweek opponent since defeating No. 12 Baylor 2-0 at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. It was the second shutout for the Mavericks this season (1-0, Missouri State - 14 inn.) and the fourth time they have allowed three or fewer runs in a game this season. Last season the Mavericks recorded four shutouts. It was the eighth shutout victory for the Mavericks under third-year head coach Darin Thomas.
Jason Mitchell: STRIKEOUT WATCH
Jason Mitchell is on pace to shatter the UTA all-time single-season strikeout record with 38 strikeouts in five appearances (4 starts). Mitchell is averaging 12.2 strikeouts per 9 innings. He leads UTA with a 1.29 ERA in 28.0 innings. He has combined on two shutouts and has allowed only 25 base hits and 14 runs (4 earned runs). Mitchell has issued only five walks while opponents are batting .223 against him. Last season Nathan Long broke the UTA single-season strikeout record with 104. In Long's first four starts last season he had 25 strikeouts. Long finished his senior season leading the Southland in strikeouts and was drafted in the 26th round by the Oakland Athletics.
MITCHELL ABOUT TO MATCH 2009 STRIKEOUT TOTAL
In his first season at UT Arlington in 2009, Jason Mitchell struck out 42 batters in 58.1 innings pitched. Already in 2010, Mitchell has a conference leading 38 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched. Mitchell's career-high for strikeouts in a game entering the season was six, already this season Mitchell has struck out six or more batters in his last three starts. Only on four occasions in 2009 did Mitchell strikeout four or more batters.
Michael Choice CLOSES IN ON UTA SINGLE-SEASON INTENTIONAL WALKS RECORD
Michael Choice has already recorded six intentional walks this season in only 15 games played. The all-time single-season record for intentional walks is seven by former Maverick and current Seattle Mariners catcher Adam Moore. In 2006, Moore broke the UTA intentional walks record and received a total of 31 walks.
Michael Choice CONTINUES STREAK: 29 STRAIGHT GAMES REACHING BASE SAFELY
Michael Choice has reached base safely in 29 straight games dating back to last season. The last game Choice did not reach base was last season against Oklahoma State (4/28/09) where he went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly. He finished the 2009 season with a 12-game hit streak and this season has hit safely in 13 of 17 games. In the four games this season Choice hasn't recorded a base hit he has tallied nine walks, and he had a four walks against Missouri State (2/26).
CHOICE CLIMBS UTA ALL-TIME CAREER RECORD BOOKS
Michael Choice moved into fourth place on the all-time UTA career home run record book with his 24th career home run against Oklahoma Christian. Choice is now two home runs behind Ryan Roberts (26, 2002-03) for third place and three behind Ryan Roberts (26, 2002-03) for third place. Matt Mize (31, 1998-99) and Craig Martin (27, 1998-2001) are the top two on the career home run list. Choice moved into eighth on the all-time career RBI list with 122. He needs seven RBI to move into a tie for sixth on the all-time list. Choice moved into eighth place on the career total bases chart with 302. He now needs seven total bases to move past Ryan Roberts (308) into seventh place on the career list.
