ARLINGTON, Texas -- Coming off its season-high in runs at 15, UT Arlington travels to College Station to face Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
The Mavericks opened up Western Athletic Conference play by going 2-1 at UTSA over the weekend, including a 15-2 win on Sunday. UTA scored 22 runs in its two wins over the Roadrunners and will need that offense against Texas A&M. The Aggies are 16-8 overall and are coming off a weekend in which they took two-of-three games from No. 6 Ole Miss.
"It's just another tough road game," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We will have to play good baseball and we know that our margin of error will not be very big. Hopefully we can gather a little bit of momentum from our last two games."
UTA is just 8-24 against Texas A&M all-time, but is coming off a 2012 victory of the then-No. 2 ranked Aggies. Prior to the 3-2 victory, the Mavericks had lost four consecutive to Texas A&M and are just 2-19 in College Station. With Texas A&M's switch to the SEC this year, it will mark the first time since 2008 in which UTA will take on an SEC opponent. The Mavericks defeated Alabama twice in 2008.
Matt Shortall enters the midweek contest with a 13-game hitting streak. The designated hitter collected three hits against UTSA on Sunday with a season-high five RBI. He is hitting .393 during the streak (22-56) with 18 RBI. The Mavericks as a team are hitting .286 with five batters hitting over .300.
Keegun Hucul is set to make his fourth start of the season when he faces the Aggies. Hucul is 0-0 this season with nine appearances and a 4.82 ERA. In his last start, Hucul went 2.2 innings pitched against TCU at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with two strikeouts and an earned run.
The Mavericks conclude their eight-game road trip this weekend against Louisiana Tech before returning home on April 2 against Oklahoma Christian.
