Jason Mitchell Named Southland Pitcher of the Week

ARLINGTON, Texas - For the second time this season, UT Arlington senior right-handed pitcher Jason Mitchell has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Mitchell (Phoenix, Ariz.) threw his second straight complete game last Friday night in a 3-1 victory over Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. Improving to 3-2 on the season, Mitchell allowed only one run on five hits with six strikeouts and walked two in the outing.
Mitchell currently leads the Southland and ranks seventh in the nation with 52 strikeouts. His 46.0 innings pitched are tied for fifth most in the country while he is allowing opponents to bat just .222 against him in eight appearances.
Mitchell also made a one-inning relief appearance in the Mavs' 13-1 midweek victory over Louisiana-Monroe last Tuesday. He pitched the ninth inning for the Mavericks while striking out the side against the Warhawks.
He has combined on two shutouts on the season and owns a team best 2.35 ERA. Mitchell was also tabbed conference pitcher of the week on March 2, following a memorable 18-strikeout performance against Missouri State where he carried a no-hitter through 8.2 innings.
