BSB: Mavs looking for bounce back at Baylor

ARLINGTON, Texas - After a stretch of six consecutive Western Athletic Conference games, UT Arlington travels to Waco for a nonconference affair against Big 12 member Baylor. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
The Mavericks (16-14) are tied for first in the WAC at 6-3, despite losing two of three games over the weekend to CSU Bakersfield. The Bears (16-16) are third in the Big 12 at 5-3 and are coming off a 2-1 series win over West Virginia.
UT Arlington is 30-80 all-time against Baylor, including 12-48 on the road. The Mavericks also lost two games at Baylor Ballpark last season in the NCAA Regionals. The teams did split two regular-season meeting s in 2012, each winning at their home park.
"It's tough to bounce back on the road against a good club," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We're just going to have to find a way to do it and get ready for next weekend."
The Mavericks return to Clay Gould Ballpark for the start of a three-game WAC series Friday against San Jose State. UT Arlington also has a nonconference game against Arlington Baptist on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie.
Daniel Milliman is scheduled to get the Baylor start for UT Arlington. The junior right-hander is 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA. Baylor counters with Sean Spicer, who is 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA.
Mavericks designated hitter Matt Shortall continues to be one of the top hitters in the WAC. The junior is batting .381 (third in WAC), with 34 RBI (tied for second), 43 hits (sixth) and a .584 slugging percentage (fifth). Shortall delivered the winning hit in Saturday's 3-2 win over CSUB.
UT Arlington is 2-5 against the Big 12 this season, having faced Texas Tech (1-2), Oklahoma (1-0), Texas (0-1) and TCU (0-1). The Mavericks face Baylor at Clay Gould Ballpark on April 30.
