ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior right-handed pitcher Jason Mitchell (Phoenix, Ariz.) has been named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine second team Academic All-District® selection.

Mitchell, an economics major at UTA, is one of six pitchers that were named to the University Division District 6 first and second team. A total of 14 student-athletes were selected to the first team while 13 student-athletes were tabbed second team.

All first team honorees will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Mitchell currently leads the Southland Conference with 94 strikeouts and with 85.0 innings pitched. Mitchell is 5-3 and leads UT Arlington with a 3.49 ERA in 11 starts (14 appearances). His team-leading four complete games rank tied for seventh in the nation.

He needs only 11 strikeouts to become the Mavericks' all-time single-season leader (Nathan Long - 104, 2009). Mitchell struck out a school and Southland Conference record 18 batters earlier this season while carrying a no-hitter through 8.2 innings against Missouri State (2/26).

Mitchell has struck out at least nine batters in five starts this season and he has pitched at least 7.0 innings in all but one of his 11 starts on the year.
