UT ARLINGTON EARNS NO. 5 SEED IN SLC TOURNAMENT, TAKES ON LAMAR

ARLINGTON, Texas - Despite being rained out on the final day of the regular season, UT Arlington earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. The Mavericks (29-24, 19-13) will take on tournament No. 4 seed Lamar (36-20, 20-13) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. League champion and top-seeded Texas State (38-14, 24-7) and No. 8 seed Stephen F. Austin (23-30, 14-18) make up the rest of UT Arlington's side of the bracket.
The other side of the tournament bracket will feature No. 2 seed Southeastern Louisiana (35-20, 21-12) who will play No. 7 seed and defending tournament champion Sam Houston State (32-22, 18-14). The final first round pairings are No. 3 seed UTSA (31-22, 20-12) who will face No. 6 seed Northwestern State (26-24, 18-13).
UT Arlington is familiar with Lamar after just leaving Beaumont last weekend. The Mavericks took 1-of-3 from the Cardinals, winning game-one of the series 9-4. The victory saw UT Arlington hand Lamar freshman Eric Harrington (7-1) his only loss of the season.
UT Arlington went 1-2 against Texas State this season, dropping a non-conference game against the Bobcats on Feb. 21 (8-6) and splitting a two-game SLC series during the final weekend of the regular season at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Mavericks struggled against Stephen F. Austin this season while losing four games to the Jacks, including a non-conference game in Edinburg, Texas earlier this season and dropping three straight games in Nacogdoches during their SLC series.
The following are the first-round matchups for the 2009 Southland Conference Tournament.
