ARLINGTON, Texas - - The UT Arlington baseball team opens 2008 Southland Conference Tournament action at 9 a.m. Wednesday against third-seeded Texas State. UTA grabbed the No. 6 seed by earning a series sweep against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to close out the regular season at home.
If the Mavericks win that game, they would play the Southeastern Louisiana-Lamar winner at 4 p.m. on Thursday. A loss would put UTA in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Thursday against the SLU-Lamar loser.
UTA and Texas State faced each other March 20-22 in Sam Marcus with the Bobcats taking two of three at their place. UTA won the first game, 6-5, then lost a 10-9 decision before losing 13-4 to close out the series. The Mavericks (26-29) ended the regular season by winning four consecutive games.
Texas State (29-25) is also playing well right now, taking two of three against UTSA and winning five of its past seven to end the season.
