ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington junior Matt Shortall was named a Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Shortall is a third-team selection as an outfielder.
"It's a great honor," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "He had an outstanding year. It's good to see our guys recognized nationally for the years they had. I'm proud of him and it's well-deserved. He follows in the footsteps of some great players here who have been All-Americans."
Shortall led the WAC regular-season champions in several offensive categories. A designated hitter for much of the season, Shortall hit .362, good for third in the WAC, and had 54 RBI. Shortall led the team with eight home runs, including three in the team's final regular-season series at Sacramento State.
Shortall has garnered several honors for this performance this past season. The Dallas native was named College Sports Madness fourth-team All-American Team and WAC Field Player of the Year, first-team All-WAC and a semifinalist for the Olson Award.
