BSB: Vaughan Picked by Athletics in 12th Round

ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA junior outfielder Noah Vaughan has been picked in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics, it was announced on Wednesday morning.

Vaughan, a native of Conroe, Texas is the 62nd player in program history to be selected in the MLB Draft, with the Mavs represented in the draft in each of the last 10 seasons.

A 6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed hitter, Vaughan has a strong junior season in 2018 for the Mavericks, owning a .276 average with six doubles, six triples, 14 homers and 33 RBI, stealing four bases. Vaughan finished the year ranked fourth in the Sun Belt in homers and second in triples. His 14 homers (fifth) and six triples (sixth) rank among the most in UTA single-season history.

In his career, Vaughan has played in 164 UTA games with 151 starts, batting .269 with 19 doubles, 12 triples, 23 homers and 93 RBI, stealing 21 bases.

Last season, UTA had three draft picks and one free agent signee, with Austin Gardner, Jakob Hernanez, Brady Cox and Kadon Simmons each making their professional debuts in 2017.
