BSB: Daniel James Picked by Royals in MLB Draft

ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA senior right-handed pitcher Daniel James has been picked in the 26th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

A native of Lubbock, Texas, James joins UTA junior centerfielder Noah Vaughan as selections in the 2018 MLB Draft, which continues through Wednesday night.

James, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander, appeared in 21 games for the Mavs in 2018, with a 2-5 record and a 3.56 ERA and six saves. James worked 30.1 innings, allowing 28 hits and 15 walks, striking out 28.

In his four-year career, James appeared in 85 games with three starts, owning a 4.29 ERA with 22 saves in 126 innings, allowing only 38 walks and striking out 102. James earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2017 after leading the circuit with 13 saves, the second most in UTA single-season history. James ranks sixth in program history in appearances and third in saves.
