ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington junior Matt Shortall was named to the NCAA South Central All-Region team by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Shortall is a second-team selection as a designated hitter.
"It's a great honor," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "He had an outstanding year. It's good to see our guys recognized nationally for the years they had. I'm proud of him and it's well-deserved."
Shortall led the Western Athletic Conference regular-season champions in several offensive categories. A designated hitter for much of the season, Shortall hit .362, good for third in the WAC, and had 54 RBI. Shortall led the team with eight home runs, including three in the team's final regular-season series at Sacramento State.
Shortall has garnered several honors for his performance this past season. The Dallas native was named College Sports Madness fourth-team All-American and WAC Field Player of the Year, first-team All-WAC, a semifinalist for the Olson Award as well as a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American.
