ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington outfielder Michael Choice was named to his fifth Freshman All-American team on Tuesday when Rivals.com selected the Mansfield native to their second team Freshman All-American list. Choice has also been selected a Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (first team), Baseball America (second team), Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger and PING! (second team). Choice led the Mavericks in all triple-crown categories with a .376 average, seven home runs and 51 RBI.
Choice, the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, was one of six outfielders named to the All-American list by Rivals.com. He was the only player from the Southland Conference recognized, and his 51 RBI were more than any other outfielder selected to the first or second team.
Rivals.com named six outfielders to the two team, 32 player list. Outfielder selected includes, Kentrail Davis (.330, 13 HR, 44 RBI) of Tennessee, Brian Fletcher (.324, 10 HR, 42 RBI) of Auburn and Ryan Lockwood (.415, 0 HR, 37 RBI) of South Florida to the first team, while Ben Klafczynski (.339, 11 HR, 35 RBI) of Kent State, Dan Grovatt (.324, 3 HR, 46 RBI) of Virginia and Choice were selected to the second team.
The UT Arlington center fielder posted 24 multi-hit games, including three four-hit performances and 13 multiple RBI games. Choice recorded a season-best nine-game hitting streak (April 26-May 10) where he batted .514 (19-for-37) with three stolen bases and eight RBI. Choice was third in the Southland Conference in batting average (.376) while recording the highest average among all freshmen in the SLC.
UT ARLINGTON FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICANS:
Choice becomes the second player in UT Arlington history to garner Freshman All-American honors. Former UT Arlington standout Darrell Preston was named a Freshman All-American in 2001, before finishing his collegiate career as the all-time school-record holder in games played (230), at bats (856), base hits (268) and RBI (166).
