ARLINGTON, Texas - Matt Otteman will receive the 2009 Howard Green SABR Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year award on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington prior to the Texas Rangers game against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:05 p.m.

Otteman, the 17th recipient of the award, recorded the second highest single-season batting average in UT Arlington history in 2009 (.432) and also tied the school's single-season RBI (69) record.

Otteman returned to the Metroplex on Tuesday morning after helping lead the Arizona Mariners to the Rookie League championship as a right-handed relief pitcher.

Otteman threw in 16 games and recorded a 1.88 ERA in 24.0 innings pitched. He struck out 28 batters and allowed just five walks with one save.
