ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UTA baseball program – the defending Sun Belt Conference Western Division Champions – will host a pair of high school showcases in late October, it was announced by UTA Head Coach Darin Thomas on Wednesday.
The Mavs will host a high school showcase camp on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Clay Gould Ballpark and will welcome a team camp on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Attendees of the high school prospect clinic will go through an extensive professional style workout, starting with position players from 9 a.m. CT to 11:45 a.m., before the pitchers check in for the afternoon session at 12 p.m., with a complete afternoon game slated for 1 p.m.
The UTA team high school showcase camp will start at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Clay Gould Ballpark. Games will be held at 11:15 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark, with extensive infield/outfield and batting practice opportunities leading into game competition.
ABOUT UTA BASEBALL: The Mavs are coming off a 20-10 season in 2017 that saw UTA win the Sun Belt Western Division Championship, a first in program history. UTA saw five players earn all-conference honors, with four returning for 2018, and Darin Thomas earning Sun Belt Coach of the Year accolades. The Mavs are led by Thomas and a dynamic coaching unit, including recruiting coordinator and hitting coach Fuller Smith, a former star at Ole Miss, and catching coordinator Joel Bocchi, a former Arizona State backstop. Pitching coach Jon Wente, a former star at Arizona State and McNeese, brings an extensive resume as one of the nation's top junior college head coaches before joining the Mavs.
