BSB: Mavs Set for Fall World Series

ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA baseball will hold a fall intrasquad scrimmage in a best of five format, with three games set for the week, starting on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. CT at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavs will split into two teams, with one squad coached by assistant coach Fuller Smith, and the opposing team coached by assistant coach Joel Bocchi. The best of five series will resume on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and the third game will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Team Bocchi consists of position players RJ Williams, Boone Montgomery, Seth Ballenger, Omar Salinas, Easton Johnson, Phil Berthiaume, Justin Marino and Ty Sawka. On the mound, Team Bocchi includes Jordon West, Jake Wilcox, Cody Wernli, Drew Gooch, Trae Patterson, David Moffat, Dylan Schneider, Parker Schkade and Nick Skeffington.

Team Smith includes position players Christian Hollie, Will Olson, Noah Vaughan, Aaron Funk, Josh Minjarez, David Renning, Jakob Nunez, Zac Cook and Phillip Childs. The pitching staff for Team Smith includes Kaikepono Anderson, Tristan Tom, Carlos Tavera, Adam Meyer, Ryan Buss, Jud Kinzy, Andrew Gross, Daniel James, Brad Vassar, Reid Petty and Logan Austin.



UTA is coming off a 20-10 conference season in 2017 that saw the Mavs win the Sun Belt Western Division Championship, a first in program history. UTA saw five players earn all-conference honors, with four returning for 2018, and Darin Thomas earning Sun Belt Coach of the Year accolades.
