ARLINGTON, Texas -- Sophomore infielder/catcher Will Olson collected four hits and six RBI - belting a three-run home run - to highlight a scrimmage as part of the 34th annual UT Arlington Alumni Weekend, on Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Olson, a native of Sherman, Texas, had three singles, a three-run homer and reached base safely in five trips to the dish on Saturday. His standout performance was joined offensively by a homer from junior outfielder Omar Salinas, who added a walk and drove in two runs.
Senior backstop Brady Cox - a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench National Catcher of the Year Award in 2016 - had a pair of walks and a single. Sophomore outfielder Aaron Funk added a triple among his two hits.
Junior southpaw Adam Meyer worked three shutout innings in a start, with senior right-hander Matt Michalski tossing four innings on the other side. Reid Petty, Ryan Buss, Jud Kinzy, Brad Vasser and Dylan Easterling each worked multiple relief innings.
The alumni weekend concluded with the scrimmage and cookout at Gould Ballpark. The event opened with a golf scramble on Friday The Baseball Alumni Weekend was co-hosted by the Maverick Club. The Maverick Club serves as the primary booster organization for UTA Athletics. Members of the Maverick Club support the athletic department through their annual donations, attendance at home sporting events, and general promotion of UTA Athletics. The Maverick Club currently supports fourteen NCAA, Division I sports and nearly 200 student-athletes.
