ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior Matt Shortall was named to the Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American third team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
"Matt is one of the better returning hitters in the nation," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "I am looking for him having a great senior season."
Shortall led the Western Athletic Conference regular-season champion Mavericks in several offensive categories last season. He hit .362, good for third in the WAC, and had 54 RBI. Shortall led the team with eight home runs, including three in the team's final regular-season series at Sacramento State.
Shortall has garnered several honors for his performance this past season. The Dallas native was named College Sports Madness fourth-team All-American and WAC Field Player of the Year, first-team All-WAC, Louisville Slugger third-team All-American, and NCAA South Central All-Region second team. He was also a semifinalist for the Olson Award.
The Mavericks open the season the 2014 season Feb. 14 at Clay Gould Ballpark with the UTA Invitational.
