POSTGAME NOTES

  • UTA improved to 12-7 on the season and 3-3 against Sun Belt competition. The Mavericks return to action Thursday, Jan. 18 against current Sun Belt league-leader Louisiana in College Park Center.
  • Arkansas State dropped to 6-13 on the season and 1-5 in the Sun Belt. The Red Wolves travel to Little Rock for a rivalry game on Saturday, Jan. 20 in the Jack Stephens Center.
  • Eight of the nine players who saw action in the first half at Arkansas State scored at least two points. Mairega Clarke did not play due to illness. Scott Muirhead played 2 first half minutes and did not attempt a shot.
  • Eventually, all nine players who saw action scored in the game.
  • UTA's 97 point output at Arkansas State marked the second-highest total for the Mavericks in the series history that dates back to Feb. 4, 1964. It was the highest UTA scoring total since a 99-100 double-overtime loss to A-State on Feb. 16, 1965 in Arlington.
  • Senior forward Nathan Hawkins scored 15 points, his second-highest total of the season, and distributed a career-high 7 assists at Arkansas State. His previous high for single game assists was 5 against Fordham in 2015.
  • During the first half at Arkansas State, the starting lineup went 16-of-25 from the field for 64 percent shooting. The starters went 7-of-13 from behind the 3-point arc.
  • UTA's victory snapped a 4-game road losing streak, dating back to a 90-81 loss at then No. 25 Creighton on Dec. 18.
  • Kevin Hervey was without his Adidas basketball shoes in the game at Arkansas State. One of the shoes broke during the Little Rock contest. He played against A-State wearing one shoe supplied by freshman redshirt Nils Huizenga and the other his own. One shoe was white. The other grey.
  • Sophomore DJ Bryant scored 7 points at Arkansas State, matching his previous career best of 7 points earlier this season against Rice in College Park Center.
  • UTA connected on 15 3-point field goals at Arkansas State, setting a new arena record for an A-State opponent. The previous high was 14 by Little Rock on Feb. 24, 2001. UTA's 15 3-pointers is the most for the Mavericks in a single game this season and matched the third-most in a single game in program history.
  • UTA scored 54 points in the first half at Arkansas State, equaling the arena record for most points in a first half by an A-State opponent. The previous high was 54 by Middle Tennessee on Feb. 26, 1990.
  • Senior forward Kevin Hervey scored 7 points at Arkansas State to give him 1,474 career points. He is third all-time at UTA and three points shy of second-place Anthony Vereen's 1,477 points from 2005-09.
  • Senior guard Erick Neal scored 18 points at Arkansas State. The Dallas native has 1,259 points in his career and has moved into 9th on the school's career scoring list - against the Red Wolves he passed LaMarcus Reed, who scored 1,245 from 2009-12.
